# HelloGem > HelloGem is a plugin for ChatGPT and a read-only MCP server that explains one cosmetic ingredient at a time: what it is, what it does and who says so. Given an exact INCI, common or chemical name from a skincare or cosmetic ingredient label, it returns one explanation built from cosmetic functions and short definitions from the European Commission's CosIng database, chemical roles from EMBL-EBI ChEBI, labeled HelloGem inferences from cosmetic functions, brief descriptions from Paula's Choice and NIVEA (skincare brands) and INKEEDecoder (an editorial ingredient website), and function labels and product types from COSMILE Europe (an industry reference). Every statement keeps its source and link, and each result has a feedback link tied to that exact result. - MCP endpoint: https://api.hellogem.ai/mcp (Streamable HTTP, stateless, no authentication) - Tools: `search_ingredients` (query: one name, 1-200 characters; limit: 1-10, default 5) and `get_ingredient` (ingredient_id: `ing_...`). Both are read-only, and there are no others. A search with exactly one match includes the full explanation in `ingredient_details`. Tool and field descriptions only say what the tools do and return; guidance on presenting a result is in the server's MCP instructions. - `explanation` is one list of statements, covering what the ingredient is and what it does, to write a single answer from. `status: accepted` marks a CosIng cosmetic function, a ChEBI chemical role or a labeled HelloGem inference from a cosmetic function. `status: source_claim` marks a source's own words, with a `kind`: - `definition`: a source's short definition of what the ingredient is, such as its origin or composition; not an effect - `description`: the source's own explanation of what the ingredient is or does - `source_label`: a short label the source uses, such as "Humectant" - `product_use`: product types the source says contain the ingredient; not an effect - COSMILE Europe bases its function labels on CosIng. Attribute them to COSMILE and never present them as CosIng statements, as agreement with CosIng or as accepted facts; a label is left out when the same CosIng function is already accepted. - Answer from the result only, in short natural prose: no web results, outside knowledge or guesses from the name, and headings or tables only when asked. Name each source exactly as returned, with its kind. When sources agree or differ, say so and name them; agreement isn't verification and a description isn't independent proof. Keep a source's hedges. - Sources differ by ingredient, and not every source covers every ingredient. When none covers the question, say so briefly instead of adding outside knowledge. - `names` are accepted names. `related_terms` are terms a source lists alongside the ingredient; `same_ingredient` is true only when the term is also an accepted name. Don't treat related terms as synonyms. - Each source page is quoted briefly (at most 25 words in intact items), and a CosIng definition only whole; full articles are not reproduced. A source's `reference_count` is its own bibliography, not research HelloGem has reviewed. For a quoted page, `source_capture_date` is when HelloGem read the page, not when the source wrote or reviewed it; reference-fact rows leave it null. - Matching is exact: no spelling correction, no fuzzy search and no full ingredient-list analysis. Identities without an accepted name aren't served. - HelloGem gives no safety, efficacy, concentration, formulation, medical, suitability or regulatory conclusions, and doesn't relay them when a source makes them. A CosIng listing is not regulatory approval. - Every identity currently has curation status provisional. COSMILE Europe and CosIng were captured only in part. - Show `feedback_url` as "Report an issue". A report sent there arrives with the exact request and result, not the assistant's wording; if the wording is the problem, the person pastes that part. Tool requests, results and feedback are stored privately and expire after 365 days. - HelloGem 0.1.0 is published in ChatGPT by Omnishades Worldwide LTD. People install it from https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6acdb7a4a57c8191bb3370a0db5923c7 and choose it for a chat; selecting it is the surest way for ChatGPT to use it. Other MCP clients and agents can call the endpoint above directly. - Publisher: Omnishades Worldwide LTD, anselme@omnishades.com. ## Docs - [Developer notes](https://hellogem.ai/developers.html): tools, example results, statement kinds, field meanings, quoting, errors and feedback - [Walkthrough transcript](https://hellogem.ai/walkthrough.html): a 75-second walkthrough illustrated from real results, as text - [Try HelloGem](https://hellogem.ai/try.html): a short first try for people: install it, ask about five ingredients, report problems and reflect - [Release manifest](https://api.hellogem.ai/dataset): counts, coverage, quoted-source capture ranges and checksums (JSON) ## Policies - [Sources and attribution](https://api.hellogem.ai/attribution): CosIng, ChEBI (CC BY 4.0), Paula's Choice, NIVEA, INKEEDecoder and COSMILE Europe; none endorses HelloGem - [Privacy policy](https://api.hellogem.ai/privacy) - [Terms of use](https://api.hellogem.ai/terms) - [Support](https://api.hellogem.ai/support): data corrections, connection issues and privacy requests ## Optional - [Home](https://hellogem.ai/): what HelloGem is for, with a real example, example questions, coverage and how to install it
